File Parameters - Bleed Requirements
Extra Image Area Needed
| • |
Extra image is needed, all the way around the image, to make up for variances in trimming. This extra area is called “bleed.” 3D images need extra bleed on the sides, also. |
| • |
All images need: |
1/8 inch ( 3.5 mm. ) “bleed” on the top and bottom, ( 1/4 inch total or 7 mm. total ), beyond the trim. |
| • |
3D images need: |
3/4 inch ( 20 mm. ) “bleed” on the left and right sides of the image, (1-1/2 inches total or 40 mm. total of extra width) beyond trim. |
| • |
Slightly more “bleed” may be needed if the image is die cut. |
| • |
All logos, type and other “critical items” need to be at least 0.2” ( 0.5 mm.) from trim.
|
Caution:If we don’t have enough image, we will have to re-create those areas according to what we “think” they may have looked like. This isn’t as accurate, and can add a great deal of time and extra cost, especially if the image is complex or large. |
|
Special Builders Tip:The artist that originally produced your image may have a file that has the extra image area that is needed. Often, as a final step, they cropped the file down before sending it to you. They do this to make sure it is positioned properly, and so that the file takes up less disk space. Sending us the uncropped file can solve the bleed issue. |
In lenticular printing as well as conventional printing, you need to extend the image beyond where it will trim off. This extra area is referred to as “bleed.”
In addition to the standard bleed needed, we also need extra image on each side of dimensional images. As you view the final dimensional image to give it the appearance of being dimensional, you will notice that items in the image appear to move from side to side. To make sure we don’t run short of image, and to make sure items in the scene don’t get chopped in half at the extreme left and right views, we need this extra image on the sides. See the diagrams below.
